Our Group
The Kingston upon Hull and East Riding Group of Advanced Motorists consists of about 160 local members and is affiliated to the national body, the Institute of Advanced Motorists.
The IAM was established in 1956 and our Group was set up by some like minded individuals in 1964, making it one of the first established Groups affiliated to the IAM.
The aim of the IAM is to promote road safety through driver education and improved driving skill and it is able to pursue that goal through Groups like ours. It is through local Groups with their volunteer Observers that the IAM perform this valuable service.
An Observer would, as a minimum, be an Advanced Driver qualified by further training and assessment within the Group and certified to offer advice and guidance to prepare an Associate for the IAM’s Advanced Driving Test. The Group has about a dozen or so Group Qualified Observers in addition to three or four Senior Observers. Senior Observers have been assessed externally by IAM Staff Examiners as competent to perform their duties and form part of the quality assurance process to ensure that Associates are carefully and adequately prepared for the Advanced Driving Test.
